Your wedding morning

The key to a relaxed, and happy Wedding morning? Having a good Pre-planned schedule in place.

Your wedding morning is such a big part of the day, full of laughter and girl talk (another reason why I love my job), and with a schedule in place, you and your girls will know what time your needed in hair and makeup, so that you can all relax with a glass of champagne, knowing that the morning is going to run like clockwork.

With an abundance of experience in scheduling wedding mornings, I’m aware that some of my brides can always be a little shocked at how early hair and makeup needs to start. Every makeup artist may be slightly different with there schedules, but personally I have found the best way is to have more time than you need, rather than having a crammed morning that could then potentially leave you running late for the ceremony, missing out on time to get those all important pre-ceremony drinks and photos in, and moreover leave you feeling stressed - Massive No no!

How Much time will makeup take?

45-60 minutes per person

60 minutes for the Bride

When putting together a schedule for my Brides, these timings are what I use as my guide. For example if you are getting married at 2pm, then I will ensure that you and your bridal party are all ready by 1pm. This then leaves time to pop on dresses and shoes, capture some photos, share gifts, and ultimately time to just breathe in the moment.

In regards to the order of who has there makeup done at what time, I always let my brides know what time there makeup will be, then leave it with them to choose everyone else’s time. Bare in mind that your mum may want her makeup done first so then she is free for the rest of the morning to help out, also some of your bridesmaids may not be with you the night before, so if one of your friends is arriving later than everyone else, she may want to be scheduled last.

No one ever wants there makeup done first, but I assure you whoever is first for makeup will look as fresh as whoever is last for makeup. Touch ups happen right up until your ceremony time for everyone, so you can have something to eat and drink without fear of ruining your lipstick!

Here is an example of a wedding morning schedule for you. My bride is getting ready with her mum,and two bridesmaids. The ceremony is at 1pm.

Arrive at 8.15 to start at 8.30am

8.30-9.15 Mother of the Bride

9.15-10 BM1

10-11 Bride

11-11.45 BM2

11.45 onwards - Touch ups

Schedules are always an amazing way to keep the morning on track, and also ensures that the same person isn’t needed in hair and makeup at the same time, BUT occasionally we have to be flexible, and sometimes things don’t always go to plan in the mornings, and thats okay! Wedding schedules have been changed, and people have swapped places many times before…and everyone has still been ready to go on time.

FAQ

After recently doing a Q & A on Instagram (@leannastibbonmua) for Brides on wedding mornings, here are the most commonly asked questions I received….

Can you provide a second MUA if we wanted to start Bridal prep later?

This is definitely a possibility. I would however need to know if a second MUA was required as soon as possible, as other trusted Makeup artists that I work with will also be taking on there own bookings.

Is there a maximum amount of people you can do?

This Ultimately depends on your ceremony time, venue location, and how many members are in your bridal party requiring makeup. It also depends on how early everyone is willing to start getting ready. I’m always happy to do a mock schedule for your wedding morning so that you can see if the start time is suitable for you all. On average I tend to have between 4-8 people for makeup.

Do you have a minimum amount of people for makeup when booking a wedding?

During peak Summer season and weekends I require the Bride to book plus at least two others. If you are getting married in either January, February, March, October, November, or December, you could simply book just for yourself (the Bride).

Will you arrange a schedule with my hairstylist?

Yes! I tend to send my schedule to your hairdresser once my brides have arranged and popped names next to the makeup time slots (or you can do this depending on your preference), this way hair and makeup wont clash with each other.

Who would you suggest has there makeup done first, and in what order do you find works best?

Ultimately this is down to you and your bridal party. Here are some things to consider….

Whos the early riser in your group?

Will mum want to be ready first so she is available to help out?

What time everyone is arriving in the morning?

If one, or more, of your bridesmaids have children they may need to be available later on in the morning to get the children ready, so may want to be ready earlier than others.
