Online Makeup Lessons

2/11/2021

Zoom Makeup Lessons have been popular for me this lockdown, with many women wanting to get together with there friends to learn how to perfect there makeup skills.
With time now available to us more than ever before, it's always fun to learn something new. My makeup zoom lessons are for groups of friends to come together and learn, for brides who may now face the challenge of doing there own wedding makeup, for women who feel like there stuck in a rut with there makeup, for birthday parties, hen parties, celebrations of all kinds, or just even for yourself.. if your looking to boost your love, confidence and joy of makeup again.

In my Zoom lessons I have taught colour theory to women who are unsure of what colours and tones suit there skin type/ hair colour, I've also taught mature ladies how to create a youthful complexion, and what products will enhance there favourite features, I've taught young teenagers how to apply glitter products and simple eyeshadow techniques, and Ive also been teaching brides to be, and there bridal party, who will now be doing there own wedding makeup.

Online lessons are the perfect way to lift your spirits, giggle with friends again, and feel more confident in your makeup knowledge. I always come off a zoom call feeling so much brighter having spoken about makeup, and getting to know all the women on the call.... So grab your friends, a glass of wine (or two), and join me for an online makeup lesson that I promise will lift your spirits and will definitely take your makeup game up a level.

If you'd like to see what lessons I have available please take a look here. Alternatively send me a message if you'd like a bespoke lesson, or have any further enquiries.

Old Hollywood bridal shoot

7/27/2020

Picture
Old Hollywood is one of my favourite themes for a wedding, it makes me think of glamorous dresses, feathers and tassels,  extravagant accessories, hollywood waves and bold lips! This shoot had all these things, including a rather extravagant hat!
Myself and a bunch of super talented suppliers got together on a rainy February day at St Giles House Hotel (before the dreaded coronavirus happened), and created this shoot to inspire anyone who is looking for something a little glamorous, and stylish on there wedding day.
The flowers, cake, accessories, dresses, stationary, hair, and makeup all came together beautifully on the day - here's hoping I can return to do another shoot with some creatives again soon! But for now here's a February throwback which I hope inspires you all.

SELF CARE DURING LOCKDOWN

This has to be my most thought about blog ever, I really wanted to get this blog right, and hopefully help some of you who do struggle with self care.
This time in Quarantine has been hard for everyone in many different ways, for me personally self care is something I turn to when I can feel myself needing a lift, so here are some of my best self care ideas, and I honestly hope they may help.

1- Disconnect from Socials-
Social media, the news, group chats.. basically anything that isn't making you feel good. I noticed early on during lockdown that socials had a lot of scaremongering going on and this was feeding to the anxiety I was already feeling, so I switched off and I still take 'time out' now. We cannot control what is happening in the world, but we can control how we respond to it. However hard it may feel right now, trying to be optimistic about the future, and focusing on the positives will help.

2- Exercise
Go for a run, take an online class, turn up your favourite music and dance! Exercise may not normally be your thing, but it does make you feel instantly better, its so rewarding mentally and physically. Try it and find what works for you!

3- Read a Book-
If there was ever a time to get lost in another world then this is it! Lose yourself in a book and notice how good it feels to not be thinking about our own reality for a while. Here are some of my favourite reads at the moment-
Where the Crawdads sing- Delia Owens
Unconditional Life- Deepak Chopra,M.D

4- Hair and Skin care
I may do a separate blog on this as I have so much to say! Investing in your hair and skin care can make such a difference. We may not be able to get to the hair salon or go for a facial, but the money were saving there can be spent on products we may not normally indulge in. Buy a Hair masque, grab a bottle of olaplaex and care for your hair whilst its not being coloured. Buy an overnight oil to nourish your skin! Cult beauty is my favourite online shop to browse for skin and haircare. Here is a selection of products I have Indulged in and would highly recommend-
Wishful Yo Glow Enzyme Scrub
Olaplaex Number 3 Hair perfector
Coco& Eve Nourishing Hair Mssque.

5- Have a picnic in the Sunshine
One of my favourite things to do with my little boy! We grab all our favourite foods and head to the park, beach, or just the garden, and spend time together in the sunshine. The Sun always makes us feel instantly lifted, so let's hope the good weather continues.

6- Start a hobby
Is there something you've always wanted to do and never had the time? here's your chance to do it! A lot of friends I know have started crafting, running, learning an instrument, learning another language, drawing, whatever it may be, you now have the opportunity to throw yourself into something new.

7- Music
Music is an instant mood booster. I've even started playing Jazz in the evenings and pretending Im in a swanky city hotel somewhere (we can dream hey!)

8-Talk to a friend
Talking to friends always gives you a boost, and it will give your friend a boost too! We all need to stay connected.

9- clean and organise your house
A clean and organised house instantly makes your mind feel a little calmer, and is the perfect rainy day job.
If you have wanted to redecorate or finish a house/garden project that you started then now you can. Just simply shifting furniture around can also make the house feel refreshed and new.

10- Take a Bath
Light some candles, pop in some bubble bath, put some music on, grab your favourite hair & skincare products and relax...

Please be kind to yourselves right now, the world may feel crazy and scary but we cannot change that. We are all trying our best and some days our best is simply getting out of bed... and that's ok.

If you have any more self care ideas I would love to hear them! Leave a comment so that others can read them too.

YOUR WEDDING MORNING- Makeup timings

5/3/2020

Your Wedding Morning should be relaxed, enjoyable and completely stress-free, which is why a Wedding morning schedule is so important. Many times I get asked from my brides, 'how many people can you makeup on the morning of my wedding?' Ive been asked if I can do 10 people on a wedding morning, and asked if I can fit 3 people in.. so I thought it would be a good idea to give brides an insight into your wedding morning schedule, and why I often ask brides how early there bridesmaids would be happy to wake up before I answer!

Have a Schedule

Firstly if you have a hair and makeup artist who hasn't given you a schedule for your morning then I would be asking why. It is so important to have one or else the morning could quickly become a stressful situation. I personally send wedding timings over to brides around 2-4 weeks before the wedding day, sometimes earlier if asked or needed.
Having done over 100 weddings now I can assure you that a schedule will be needed for your sanity! No one needs there mum ringing constantly in the morning asking when she's needed or being a few hours late and wondering why she couldn't have her makeup done- everyone will thank you for the schedule!

Allow Enough Time

Every Makeup artist has a different way in which they like to work and how long they feel they need, for me personally I like to have 60 minutes for the bride, and 45-60 minutes per bridesmaid, so with this in mind the ceremony time is super important in determining how many people can have there makeup done. I always ask my bigger bridal parties before sending the timings if there bridesmaids are happy to be up early!
I aim to have everyone ready 60 minutes before leaving for the ceremony, this way there is time to have another drink with your girls, have photos taken, open gifts etc, and just have some time to take everything in.
Here is an example of a wedding morning schedule -

6.45 - Arrive and set up
7-8 Bridesmaid 1
8-9 Bridesmaid 2
9-10 Mother of the bride
10-11 Bride
11-12 Bridesmaid 3
12- Bridal party touch ups and help bridal party prepare and leave for the ceremony
ceremony- 1pm

With a larger bridal party I would allow 45 minutes per bridal party member and an hour for the bride, it doesn't change anything other than how quickly I work. If you have flower girls who would like a little hair and makeup, I would always recommend that they are done last to ensure they don't have too much time on there hands before the ceremony- we wouldn't want hair falling out of place and lipgloss being smudged across faces!

Let your Bridal Party know

I recommend brides pass the schedule on to their bridesmaids, mums, aunties etc and let everyone know what time they will be needed in hair and makeup. I tend to email your bridal hairstylist (if i know them) with my schedule, or ask my bride to send it to them before the day, so that hair and makeup timings match up, and no one is needed in two places at once.
Sending a guided schedule like the one above means my brides can change and decide the order of the morning. No one ever wants to be the first to have makeup done, but always let them know that if they are first for makeup they will be touched up last ... and also if your first in for makeup the photographer won't catch you without glam on! I would suggest that you plan the schedule and let your bridal party know what time there needed, consider who is the earliest riser and who will be staying with you the night before the wedding, so that everyone feels comfortable with there times.

Relax and trust your suppliers

Your wedding morning is such a big part of the day, you will remember the giggles you had with the girls in the morning whilst sipping champagne, the way your dad cried upon seeing you dressed as a bride, how you felt seeing yourself dressed as a bride! There are so many amazing experiences all in the morning, before you've even seen your husband yet, so ENJOY it all! Don't worry about what everyone else is doing as your suppliers will have everything under control.. and even if we are a little behind schedule we tend to quietly and quickly pull things back!

lustre allure- fashion shoot

This beautiful shoot consisted of just myself on makeup, Alisha modelling, and Chloe styling and photographing. A small shoot that has now been featured in the January issue of Mordant magazine.
A fashion shoot is something a little different for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it, this shoot was relaxed, fun and very chic!
I created three different makeup looks for Alisha to match the theme and the outfits we were working with, but wanted to keep her overall makeup light, sophisticated and glamorous- Here are some of my favourite images...

ROMANCE & DAYDREAMS~ BRIDAL EDITORIAL

Everything about this shoot was simply dreamy, the intricate and beautiful wedding gowns, paired with romantic curls and glowing bridal makeup, and shot in the breathtaking grounds of Senowe park.
Holly was the photographer and creative of this shoot, and if you haven't seen her work you really should go and take a look. Holly photographs women so elegantly, and captures all the little details perfectly.

The shoot happened at the beautiful Senowe Park, and the focus was on the bride. The shoot was all about creating beautiful bridal looks focusing mainly on dresses, hair and makeup, and the incredible venue we were lucky enough to shoot at.
We decided to do two hair and makeup looks on our models, so for the first look we kept the makeup fresh, and natural. I created faux freckles for Ambers first look and focused on creating a stand-out bold lip. For the second look we went very glam and focused on the eyes. Karinas first makeup look was fresh and dewy, then with the second makeup look we went glam again, focusing on creating a stunning bridal sparkle on the lids, and making Karinas eyes pop.

So here are some of my favourite photos from the day, I hope you find inspiration from them and love them as much as i do!...Let me know your thoughts.

Todays blog is all about my new makeup space...

I had been thinking about creating or finding a space for my makeup trials for quite some time, i really wanted to create an experience for my brides to be- a place that feels private, luxury, and a place to have prosecco and girl chats! A place to bring mum, sisters or bridesmaids too and enjoy this step in the wedding planning process.
I feel for some brides makeup trials are just something to be ticked off the wedding to-do list, and i wanted to be able to offer a different experience for my brides, something that feels more luxurious. Creating a private space was important, not a salon or shop where people can just walk in, i wanted the space to be yours for a few hours to enjoy.
Throughout the whole planning process  i had my clients in mind, creating something that they would love, and an experience that enhances the joy and excitement  that goes into planning a wedding.

my first Makeup Masterclass

My first Makeup Masterclass... I had been thinking about doing a masterclass for a while, but really wanted to choose the right time to do it. I truly wanted to teach everyone that came along something new, makeup tips that can be used everyday, and wanted to create a makeup class that was suited to every ability.  Hautbois Hall was the perfect venue as I was able to use one of there beautiful cottages on site so that we could create an intimate, comfortable, and relaxed environment. It was important to me to create an intimate class, so that everyone who came could get the most from it, and feel comfortable asking questions throughout.
Georgia was my model for the day and we created a pretty, soft glam look, using just one palette on the eyes (Huda Rose gold remastered palette). Georgia has eczema on her skin, so we prepped the skin well with skincare products before makeup application.

Here is a before image of Georgia..

We spoke about all elements of makeup whilst i was working and everyone who came was relaxed and happy asking questions throughout, and also got involved with the makeup too!
Here is the finished makeup look we created...

I can't thank everyone enough who came to my first makeup class! It was so lovely to see familiar faces of my past brides and there friends, I am always grateful for the ongoing support that my clients give me. I hope everyone that came had a good experience and learnt lots! I would love to hear some feedback so please don't hesitate to let me know your thoughts on the day.

10 best foods for healthy skin
When I mentioned on social media that i was working on the health of my skin this year, and going back to my powerhouse foods to get my rather dull, and breakout prone skin in better health, i had an abundance of messages! So i thought i would try and get this blog out to you all as soon as possible, so that we can start working on our skin health together!

Over indulging with alcohol, and sugary foods can leave you with unwanted breakouts, and a dull complexion. What you eat is just as important as the products that you apply to your skin everyday, so after over indulging, and late nights around Christmas, you tend to find yourself looking at what you can do to get your skin looking radiant again. I have listed my top 5 foods for healthy skin, the powerhouse foods that will boost your skin, and your wellbeing at the same time. Ive tried not to bore you all with long paragraphs of information, and just get straight to the point, because if you are anything like me you just want to know what to eat, and what it will do for your skin.

2019 Bridal makeup trends

1/4/2019

Picture
Are you getting married this year? If so then huge congratulations! Planning your wedding day is always so much fun, and I am here to let all you fashion forward Brides who like to stay ahead of the trends know what's set to be popular this year...

Smokey Liner-
Eyeliner has always been a favourite of mine, and this year a lot of catwalks have seen a sultry smudged liner that looks elegant, glamorous, and is perfect for brides off all ages. I think we will be seeing a lot of this in 2019.
Picture
Metallic Eyeshadows-
Metallic eyeshadows look absolutely gorgeous. They can be applied to look bold and dramatic or toned back and subtle. metallic eyes are gorgeous on camera as they really pick up the light and draws your attention to the eyes. Perfect for brides wanting a little more glam and sparkle.
Understated Glam-
Creating a 'soft glam' bridal look is always a favourite look of mine, and being able to create a flawless dewy base is where it starts. Dewy skin and lips is youthful, understated and feminine and has been on trend in the bridal world for a while now. Think dewy skin, cream blushers, a subtle smudged liner, nude lip and undone waves for an understated bridal look.
Picture
Nude Lips and Eyes-
Nude lips were super popular amongst brides last year and for good reason, nude lips suit everyone and look so beautifully elegant that women of all ages can look amazing wearing a nude lip. This year is set to be about nude lips and nude eyeshadows too...
Whats your favourite makeup trend prediction for 2019, and which would you choose for your wedding day? I'd love to know!

Dreamy Christmas shoot at hautbois hall

Picture
Christmas is my favourite time of year so when planning my first ever bridal shoot I knew it had to be a Christmas theme. Wanting to create a more glamorous Christmas feel, we created lots of warm lighting, gorgeous flower arrangements and our two beautiful models wore white dresses teamed with luxe hair and makeup, and the most beautiful accessories. We wanted this shoot to inspire all future brides planning a Christmas wedding and wanted the whole shoot to be pinterest-worthy!
I have been lucky enough to work with lots of amazing suppliers in the wedding industry and had in mind from the beginning who I wanted involved, and fortunately for me they were all just as excited as I was to shoot this. I know from planning my own wedding that if you get the right suppliers who are amazing at what they do it takes the stress away and I was happy enough to let all these awesome suppliers use there skills and creativity to do what they do best and create something special....

5 top tips for choosing your makeup artist

9/26/2018

Picture
Photography by Katherine Ashdown

Your wedding day is one of the most important and memorable days of your life, and choosing the right suppliers will ensure that your day runs perfectly.
Experienced and skilled Bridal Makeup artists have so many tips and tricks to ensure you will look glowing, radiant and beautiful from day to night. Makeup artists are creatives, and they will look at you and instantly know how to bring out your best features, and there attention to detail will ensure you have no beauty blunders- because no one wants to look back at there wedding day pictures and see there strip lash poking up at the ends, smudged mascara marks or blotchy skin!

Choosing a makeup artist can be difficult, especially when there is so many of us! so ive decided to give you my 5 top tips (which was hard to narrow down) to help you choose the right MUA for you.

1- Choose someone you connect with on a personal level
This may not be the first thought for many, but it is super important! Your makeup artist is going to be spending a lot of time with you on your wedding morning, so you really want to choose someone you feel comfortable with. If your makeup artist feels like a friend, your morning will be spent with lots of chatter and laughter, after all we are seeing all those intimate and emotional moments with you- your girls seeing you dressed as a bride, your dad seeing you just before you walk down the aisle together, and even the moments where you just want to sit on the makeup chair and feel some calmness.
Moreover if you feel comfortable with someone you are more likely going to feel confident saying, 'no, or a little more of this', on your bridal trial, being able to connect and work together like this will ensure you have the bridal look you want, and you won't feel worried, or guilty for telling your makeup artist if you don't like something.

Picture

 2- Ask for Recommendations
With so many great makeup artists around, it can be overwhelming knowing who to choose! Ask friends and family who they used for makeup on their wedding day, ask your current suppliers for recommendations, facebook and website reviews from previous brides are also important. All of this should give you a starting point and narrow down your search. Also don't forget to read the 'About' section on a  makeup artists website, this will give you an insight in to who they are, there experience, and also the style of makeup they tend to do most of.

3- Know your style
Take time to think about how you wear your makeup daily and on a night out, and then think about how much makeup you would feel comfortable wearing on your wedding day. Every makeup artist has a style, and should be capable to adapt and change the style of makeup to suit you, however it can help to choose someone who's overall style is something that your looking for. Social media is great for looking at work- instagram is only pictures, so therefore it makes scrolling through someones account super easy and you can quickly get a feel for there style. Does the makeup artist have a photo of a similar style of makeup that you're looking for? try to look at the photos in this way, and look for closeups images too. We tend to just see a picture of a pretty model and think someones work looks amazing, so try to look more at the makeup than the actual person.

4- Professionalism
Its so important to ask your MUA questions! Theres so many things you should be asking; Do i get a makeup contract, how many people can you make up in the morning, Do you send me a timing schedule for the morning. All these questions will ensure that your makeup artist is professional and will be super organised on your wedding day. Ensuring the bride is stress-free and relaxed in the morning is really important. Find the right suppliers with experience in the wedding industry, and you won't need to be worried about the time, as your suppliers will be on top of your schedule for you.
5- Start looking early!
Many makeup artists are booked for weddings up to a year in advance, especially for weekend weddings in the summer months! Do your research early on and start sending out emails to see if your artist is available, I would recommend to start your search for your bridal makeup artist as soon as you have the date booked.

One of the many things i love about my work is collaborating with other talented wedding suppliers, and this shoot had so many amazing suppliers involved..... so if you are still planning your wedding, grab a cuppa and enjoy looking through these beautiful images filled with wedding inspo!

This shoot was at the beautiful Pentney Abbey, I was truly blown away when i walked into the Bridal Prep room as the space and setting for bridal prep was so beautiful, and i would highly recommend this venue.

My model was Georgia who is an amazing model to work with, always  happy and bubbly.
Here she is straight off my iPhone after her glam with me......

The Makeup

I wanted to make Georgias young, beautiful skin super dewy so used mac cosmetics strobe cream underneath a cream foundation by RCMA. I also used some Iconic London highlighting drops to really make Georgia skin glow.
I kept Georgias lips pretty and natural by using 'Angel' from mac cosmetics with a lip oil on top

Here are some of my favourite images from this shoot.......

This shoot was so much fun! Myself and Brooke (boho beauty box) had been talking about putting together a boho inspired bridal shoot for a while, we both knew we wanted to have some fun with it, and also for it to be super relaxed.
There was only 3 of us involved in this shoot, Brooke was on hair and photography, I was of course on makeup, and the beautiful Georgia was our bride..

Once Georgia was ready we headed over to How Hill to shoot. This was Brookes first bridal shoot and she done such a fab job (I knew she would)

'ElliceLydia is a handmade, made-to-order, intimate apparel label for all sizes .Every piece is lovingly made in our studio in Norfolk, England. We believe whatever your shape or size, your body should be graced with our beautiful underwear.'

I was delighted to work on this photoshoot with Ellice Lydia recently for her new Winter collection. The theme for the shoot was Christmas and the setting was picture perfect, with a roaring fire, christmas music playing, faux fur blankets and yummy homemade chocolates...it wasn't a bad day at the office!
The hair and makeup was in keeping with the theme, we created loose curls in our models hair and for makeup i created fresh dewy skin, with warm tones on the eyes,  and of course a touch of glitter as its christmas!
I used Jouer Papaya on my models lips which is a warm metallic peach for the first set of photos and then changed the lip to glitter lips uk in red to really add a christmassy feel!

Here are some before images of my beautiful model..
And here are a few favourites from the final images..
