Preparing for your Bridal Makeup Trial

Congratulations your getting married! and preparing for your Bridal makeup trial is such an exciting time, but often sometimes nerve wracking too. Its so important that you feel prepared for your bridal trial and this blog will help you do so by giving you some key things to consider before your trial, and also some of my tips to get the most out of your trial appointment.

Bridal Trial Q & A

  1. How long will my Bridal Makeup Trial be? - Ideally we would allow 2 hours for your Bridal trial.

  2. What should I wear?- Wearing a top/dress similar to the colour of your wedding dress can be helpful for us to visualise your bridal look. Also wearing your hair in a similar style to how it will be on your wedding day is always a good idea too.

  3. Can I bring someone with me? Yes of course, just let me know before your trial who will be coming with you.

  4. When should I book for my Trial? I recommend Bridal trials take place 4-12 weeks before your wedding date.

  5. Do I need a makeup trial? Makeup Trials are important if you are feeling worried or unsure about your bridal makeup look but they are not necessary for everyone. If you feel confident in how you would like your makeup on the day and don’t feel like you need a trial then this is absolutely fine, sending pictures for inspiration to your makeup artist may be enough.

  6. Should my Bridal Party members have a trial too? This is entirely up to them and what they feel most comfortable with. I am always happy to do trials for your bridal party and recommend they are done at a similar time to the Brides Trial.

  7. Should I bring my own makeup? You do not need to bring anything with you but do bring any favourite products if you have them as i am happy to use them. Also if you have sensitive skin and have found certain products that work well for you, then do bring them along.

  8. Should I come with makeup on? Ideally I like my clients to come to there trial with clean, moisturised skin. However if there is a certain way you love to do your eyebrows, foundation etc then coming to your trial with makeup on can be beneficial for me to see. Do let me know if you need guidance with this.

  9. How should I prepare my skin for the makeup trial? Ensure your skin is clean and use your usual moisturiser on the day. Exfoliation a few days before your makeup trial will be beneficial to application too. Also if your planning to have a tan for the wedding then it will help to have one for your trial.

  10. Should I bring anything with me? If you have any jewellery that you will be wearing on the day then it may be a good idea to bring this with you.

What to consider …

  1. How much makeup you tend to wear on a daily basis- This is really important and often sometimes not even considered by clients before there makeup trial. If your someone who day to day wears very minimal makeup (i.e tinted moisturiser and some mascara), then a full face of makeup may feel way to much for you, and can leave you feeling unlike yourself. Its important to consider this too when looking at inspiration images as if you’ve shown your makeup artist an image of a full glam makeup look and you don’t wear makeup day to day, it may not be what your actually looking to achieve. I always discuss this with my clients on your bridal trial.

  2. Your favourite products and why- Do you have a go-to foundation? do you know why you love it so much… it could be because its full coverage, or maybe because its dewy and light on your skin, this is really insightful for your makeup artist as this gives us an idea of what products will makes you feel most comfortable. Also is there a product that you pop on everyday that you couldn’t go without?, maybe you apply a black kohl liner in your waterline, and if we missed this on your trial then your makeup wouldn’t feel like you.

  3. How you want to look- This is so important to know before your bridal makeup trial so that we can come together and know what your looking to achieve, so save some images of makeup inspiration that you like and bare in mind what it is you like about the image, this way you can show me and we can discuss it together on the day.

  4. Skincare- ‘Your makeup is only as good as your skincare’, if you want your skin to be at its best on your wedding day then there’s no better time to start than the present! Now is the time to be religious about your skincare routine and find out what works best for your skin- if you need any recommendations then my inbox is always open! ( I used to work as a skin aesthetic so have a lot of knowledge and love for skincare).

Most importantly…

Be Honest, This is SO important as on your bridal trial because if your not completely honest about what you do and don’t like, then we have no opportunity to achieve the bridal look you want. I always try to gather as much information from my clients as i can during there trial as it is no doubt the first time I’m meeting them, so being completely honest with me about what you do and don’t like, as well as being prepared by considering the above before your trial will be really beneficial, and will ensure you get the most from your trial.

Let me know if there’s anything I haven’t answered, or get in touch if you’d like to book in a trial with me.
